FALL PROTECTION LIFELINES ON CONFERENCE CENTER IN CALGARY, CANADA
BMO Centre Expansion: Elevating Safety and Design with BEMO and XSPlatforms
As the BMO Centre in Calgary undergoes its impressive expansion, it’s not only the size of the building that’s remarkable but the care and attention that’s gone into every aspect of the project. At the heart of this transformation is BEMO, a trusted partner of XSPlatforms, whose work on the roof is an example of precision and expertise. Along with building the roof, BEMO also installed XSPlatforms’ cutting-edge fall protection systems, ensuring the safety of those who will maintain this architectural masterpiece.
Collaboration Makes It Possible
The collaboration between BEMO and XSPlatforms is a great example of how teamwork between specialized partners can lead to remarkable results. BEMO’s expertise in roofing, combined with XSPlatforms’ knowledge of fall protection, has resulted in a roof that not only enhances the BMO Centre’s architecture but also ensures long-term safety for maintenance teams.
At XSPlatforms, we’re proud to support our partners in projects like the BMO Centre, where innovation, design, and safety come together. The successful installation of 275 meters of lifeline cables, supported by 34 XTrusion base plates, sets a new standard for how fall protection systems can be seamlessly integrated into even the most ambitious architectural projects.

Crafting the Roof: Where Form Meets Function
BEMO’s primary responsibility on this project was constructing the BMO Centre’s striking new roof. Known for their expertise in high-quality metal roofing, BEMO used advanced techniques and materials to ensure that the roof not only stands the test of time but also complements the sleek, modern design of the building.
The roof features a beautiful Exterior Copper Smooth matte finish, chosen for its durability and aesthetic appeal. This copper finish plays a key role in creating the cohesive and elegant look of the BMO Centre’s expanded footprint, blending perfectly with its contemporary architectural style.

Safety First: XSPlatforms Fall Protection
In addition to building the roof, BEMO took on the responsibility of installing a customized fall protection system from XSPlatforms—an essential service for the long-term maintenance and safety of the building.
The system includes XTrusion base plates and XSLinked lifelines, all tailored to meet the unique needs of the project. To maintain the building’s visual appeal, the XTrusion base plates were anodized in the same Exterior Copper Smooth matte finish as the roof, ensuring that safety measures are integrated seamlessly into the design.
Before starting, Jérôme received only a few photos and schematics. After analysis, it was agreed to install three XSLinked Wall & Overhead lifelines, chemically anchored to the brick façades. However, this did not go smoothly, ultimately requiring a customized solution.
The full fall protection system consists of:
- 275 meters (902 feet) of XSLinked lifeline cable, distributed across three separate lifeline systems.
- 34 XTrusion base plates, which anchor the lifelines and ensure secure, reliable safety for anyone working on the roof.
Safety without compromising Aesthetics
One of the standout aspects of this project is how safety and design work hand in hand. The anodized XTrusion base plates blend in with the copper roof, proving that practical safety systems don’t have to disrupt a building’s look. With the discreet integration of XSPlatforms’ fall protection, the BMO Centre roof remains both functional and visually appealing.
