A closer look at fall accidents in the UK

Blogs

Some rather surprising statistics are revealed in our latest infographic on fall accidents in the United Kingdom, following our previous releases about fall accidents in North America and Australia/New Zealand.

Just like in North America, the largest share of fall accidents in the UK concern falls from moderate heights: a whopping 68% of all falls happen from 2 meters (approx. 6 feet) or lower.

Numbers don’t lie

What are the most common injuries sustained by fall accidents? How many work-related fatalities are caused by falls from height? These questions (and more) are answered in our infographic about fall accidents in the UK, which can be downloaded here.

On protection and prevention

Some fall protection solutions are designed to protect users from falling to the ground when they work at height. Surprisingly, as our latest infographic on fall accidents in the UK proves, people working at moderate heights are actually more at risk of falling. At XSPlatforms, we know that especially in these cases, the risk of falling down is insufficiently observed.

So, rather than protecting users from the consequences of a fall, it might be a good idea to prevent falls from happening in the first place. Preferably, guardrails on the edge of the roof offer collective fall protection without users having to secure themselves. Alternatively, users can be restricted by a fall restraint system, that uses positioning lines which can be limited to a certain length. In this way, users can never go over the edge.
